Soloing comes to Aldershot

Soloing comes to Aldershot

March 16th brought a full entry of 45, for our first Solo at the Montgomery Lines site. After wet conditions during the morning, the lunchtime positions included four well-driven saloons in the top six places, with only a couple of sports cars among them. With conditions drying out through the afternoon, the tables gradually turned, with first overall eventually going to Bristol MC’s Chris Underwood in his silver Elise, closely pursued by Simon Trickett’s Toyota MR2, and Carl Streatfield’s yellow Elise.

A last-minute shared drive in the Carter family’s 306 GTi-6 saw Russell Smith hurling the Peugeot into fourth place overall, and a runaway class win, chased by the Caterham of previous winner Andrew Thompson in fith, and David Garside, who came sixth overall in his 2 litre Nova.

Paul Prescott (1300 Mini) and Owen Turner (1600 Metro) were separated by just half a second on total times, after twelve runs through the tests, to finish seventh and eight overall, and both win their classes. Among the larger engined saloons, Sherie Carter and the hard-worked 306 took a strong fourth place out of 13 entries in Class D, as well as winning the Ladies award.

Among several new FDMC members, also competing in their first Solo, Stephen Brindle was driving his Imp in the Historic class, while young Adam Sturney took his Saxo to fourth in Class C, and 22nd overall.
