Rallying

Rallying is a world of motor sport all on its own, with many styles and levels of event, from local up to international level, and including, in the UK: night navigational events using public roads, special stage events on forest tracks, special stage events on hard surfaces, classic / historic events for older types of car (and driver).  The one common factor? Two people in the car, the bravest one perhaps being the navigator / co driver.   FDMC has a number of members competing as drivers and co-drivers, at regional championship level.

FDMC run a number of “Road & Navigational Rally” events (eg 12 Car & Scatter rallies) across the year, see our latest event calendar for more information.   From 2020-on, you will need an RS Clubman licence to compete in these public road events.  For more information on the RS Clubman licence, see here.

FDMC also run, jointly with Sutton & Cheam MC and Craven MC, a one day stage rally as part of the Abingdon CAR-nival.  The  rally runs on the Sunday of the CAR-nival weekend and is our biggest event of the year.  A Motorsport UK competition licence will be required for this event.

The CAR-nival’s unique and very popular format combines, on the Saturday, a Sprint with two timed courses and a tarmac autosolo, social activities on the Saturday evening including a barbeque, and finishing with Sunday’s single venue tarmac stage rally.  The charitable contributions from competitors have always been a key element in the CAR-nival concept. With both the Sprint and the Rally attracting full entries, year after year, these contributions have now totalled over £300,000, for the two military charities which the event supports.
