FDMC & The Brooklands Festival of Motorsport

The Brooklands Festival of Motorsport – 18th & 19th of June

FDMC have been working behind the scenes with Brooklands on two Double-Twelve Competition events, as part of the “Festival of Motorsport” weekend at the famous museum:

“Come and enjoy this two-day extravaganza, featuring the three Double Twelve Competition events, Test Hill ascents, great food, music and entertainment for the whole family. The event celebrates Brooklands’ rich motoring and motorsport history, and is always held on the weekend closest to the anniversary of the original opening of the race track on the 17th June 1907.

Soak up the atmosphere of the site and see both current and vintage cars competing on the Speed Trials at Mercedes-Benz World on Saturday and then on the Driving Tests on Sunday, on the Banking and the Finishing Straight. If you prefer to be able to walk around and study your classic cars, then the “Pride of Brooklands” Concours may be the thing for you, including casting your vote for the “Visitors Choice” award on the day.

Both days will feature festival fun on the Museum site, with live music, car and motor club displays and family entertainment”.

Promo: FDMC at the British Motor Show, Farnborough, 19-22 Aug 21

C’ttee member Iain Eckett reports

“Farnborough District Motorsport Club have been invited by Motorsport UK to be at the British Motor Show on 19-22 August.

It’s kinda cool that FDMC have been asked to put on a bit of a show at such a prestigious event and will be doing some Autosolos with members from the club to help promote grass root motorsport.

So please come along and see FDMC (down by the Paul Swift Display team) and have a chat with some friendly members of the Club about joining an amazing club and grass root motorsport.

Some of the Juniors from the Club will be there so if your son/daughter is interested then they can chat to someone who’s having fun competing.

While I believe we are the best attraction, there are few other attractions that might tickle your fancy.

Please look for our FDMC Green Gazebos and while the club is there for the four days I hope to see some of you on the Sunday with my son Tom driving.”.

The 8th Regis TAP (Tour & Picnic) – 2nd September 2018

Organised by the Bognor Regis Motor Club this is a classic car tour for up to 80 cars [Jaguar, Austin Healey, Mustang, Porsche, MG. Mini, Triumph, Cobra, etc., etc.] that meanders thorough Sussex, Surrey & Hampshire every year raising money for the Kent, Surrey & Sussex Air Ambulance Trust – to date over £25,000 has been raised.

This year the event is coming through Farnborough and would like the help of FDMC members to keep an eye on the participants as they visit FAST [Farnborough Air Sciences Trust] Museum and the Hub [the old framework of the airship factory].

Your much needed and appreciated help is needed for two or three hours over the lunchtime period. Please contact David Walton to volunteer on 07970 611001 or davidbravo45@btinternet.com.

FDMC @ Brooklands Double Twelve – 16th & 17th June 2018

FDMC @ the Double Twelve Motorsport Festival, Brooklands Museum, 16-17 June 2018.

As well as the Museum to look over with all its newly opened exhibits, there is a sprint to watch on the Saturday with members of the VSCC taking part in their vintage cars, and then the Driving Tests with both older and more modern cars on the Sunday. There will also be a chance for people to take part in ascents of the iconic Test Hill on the Sunday afternoon.

We have a good space for Club stand, but we need a few more people to come along on both, or either day, to help promote the Club in particular and motorsport in general. We have a couple of people who have volunteered their services so far, but need a few more to come along and help. All we need is for people to bring along their competition cars, and a good helping of enthusiasm so we can try and sign up a few new members.

More info on the weekend’s event here.

Please contact Steve Castle stevecastle@brooklandsmuseum.com directly if you can help.
